3/9 ALBION RETAIN BROCKWORTH RYDER CUP
The society avoided a catastrophe on Friday but preventing Wayne Thomas becoming the only man to Captain both teams in the Brockworth Ryder Cup to victory.  Monmouth GC hosted the event once again, where the hospitality was as good as ever and the course equally as good.  It didn't look good for Captain Keith when he found his side 4-1 down with one pairs match left on the course but Jameson and Tony D brought home a huge point to make it 4-2 at the half way point.  The Legion had the holders rattled yet again at the half way point but were unable to press home the advantage, losing the singles 9.5 to 2.5 leaving the overall score 11.5 to 6.5 in favour of the holders.  Mentions to all those achieving maximum points, Touty, Smithy, Mark J and Tony D for Albion and Steve East for the Legion.  The event will continue next year with the committees looking at the format to increase competition.

28/8 LEWIS & SKINNER LEAVE THE FIELD GREENSOME WITH ENVY
RAF pillow biter Addy Lewis and Handicap Secretary Keith Skinner blitzed their way to the annual Greensomes event this weekend at Forest Hills GC.  Lewis now joins the already qualified Skinner in the Champion of Champions and must go in as a leading contender.  Lewis hit some monster drives including the longest drive on the fourth, while partner Skinner gave an honest assessment conceding "if he'd played with anyone else he'd have had 55pts not 45".  Elsewhere, Colm fell out of love with Joe for crimes against golf, Tony D drove his electric trolley into a tree and Knighter thinned one and still collected the prize money for nearest the pin.  Next week, the 'must not lose' Brockworth Ryder Cup match versus the Legion (captained by Wok Smuggler Wayne).

27/8 DOMINGUEZ SECURES ORDER OF MERIT AT CIRENCESTER
Pillsbury dough boy retained his order of merit title with his fourth win of the season at a windy cirncester. the chubby fella made good use of his portly frame as a solid foundation to keep him steady in the blustry conditions. Longest drive also dominguez and nearest the pin went to Mike Evans. wElsewhere, neil Crowther eagled the third, nick delves progressed to the matchplay semi finals with a one hole play off victory over mike evans and . Next week it's last chance saloon for all those yet to qualify for the champion of chapions in the greensomes at forest hills.

15/9 LYONS MAKES IT TWO BUT CATALAN TONY IS FEELING BLUE
Joe Lyons made it two wins on the Brockworth circuit at the excellent Woodlake Park this weekend.  Lyons picked up the win despite being the second highest point scorer of the day, on the visitor ruling.  The highest point scorer honour went to Menzo, playing his second event of the year who scored 38pts after a fine display off the tee and on the greens.  Smithy shanked one for nearest the pin, while Keith's trusty G10 won him longest drive.  Elsewhere Addy Lewis nearly filled Gus in, Touty progressed to the matchplay final and Tony Dominguez entered the Hall of Shame after shattering the most blobs in a single round with 10, yes 10 blobs.  Of his achievement he commented, "it's a trickio coursio".  Next week Cirencester, where surely Smithy can't be beaten on his home course can he?

8/9 WOK SMUGGLER WAYNE IS CLUB CHAMPION
Friar Thomas is the 2010 Club Champion after holding his nervous at the excellent Wychwood Golf Club. Thomas raced to 23 points at the turn and managed to contain the demons to finish on 40 to secure the win and secure his spot in the champion of champions. Elsewhere Joey Lyons fell out of love with golf, Jammo at least got back on speaking terms with the game and tony had less points after nine holes than Colm has on his driving licence. Longest drive went to Colm Evans and nearest the pin was Touty. Next week Putting nightmares at Woodlake Park.

1/8 COOK TURNS UP THE HEAT IN THE VALLEYS
Andy Cook won the Swansea Open this weekend at a very tricky Machynys Peninsula.  Cook, playing off 3, rallied to 17pts at the half way stage and finished with 33pts to take first prize ahead Order of Merit hopeful Colin Evans.  Nearest the Pin went to Nick Delves and Longest Drive was Colin Evans who told everyone it was a three wood.  Elsewhere, Leon must have been feeling pretty flush for cash as he started hitting his own golf balls down the driving range, Gilly marked a junior scorecard and we lost a total of 83 golf balls between us, well played lads.  Next week the Club Championship at the Wychwood.

28/07 FIXTURE LIST CHANGE
There's a slight change to the fixture list, with the greensomes now taking place at Forest Hills and the Brockworth AFC Invitational now taking place at Thornbury.

28/07 LYONS ROARS AT ROSS ON WYE
Fully fledged golf pervert Joe "workability" Lyons, broke his society duck this weekend, shooting 38pts around an immaculate Ross on Wye golf course. Lyons makes it 9 for the champion of champions with only 5 qualifying fixtures remaining plus places for the matchplay champion and the winners of the greensomes. Nearest the pin went to Colin Evans, longest drive to Wayne Thomas and Gus (only just), Touty and Knighter progresed to the matchplay semi finals. Next week carnage in Swansea. Bring plenty of balls and nurofen.

18/07 2010 TOUR DETAILS RELEASED
Click here to find out more.

18/07 SWANSEA LINE UP CONFIRMED
A party of 20 will make the trip to Swansea for the Machyns Peninsula lash up.  Two captains have been nominated and teams will be revealed on the day.  Likely to be a combined stableford format, this event will also have an outright winner and carry order of merit points.  There's lovely.

18/07 DOMINGUEZ TWINS ARE HERO AND ZERO AT USK CLASSIC
Gus and Tony top and tailed the field at this weekends Usk Classic, with Gus making it a record equalling three wins this season and Tony wiping out half of the trees in the Usk Valley on his way to the turd.  The win puts Gus in strong position in the order of merit and surely its his to lose now, "I put my this new found consistency down to my new diet, basically if I see something I eat it".  Elsewhere, Touty joined eagle club and there was a surge in form from Roy and Kenny who finished 3rd and 4th respectively, Howard nearly landing a hole in one on the 7th and having a putt to win on the last.  Next week, the delightful Ross-on-Wye.

11/07 DELVES SHELVES WOES AT BURGHILL VALLEY
Nick Delves entered the winners circle this weekend at Burghill Valley, racing to 40pts and a place in the Champions of Champions.  Delves left the driver in the bag, birdied the first and never looked back.  Playing partner Colm Evans had an up and down day sinking an eagle and two birdies but failing to break the 36pt mark, losing ground on Gus in the two horse order of merit race.  Nearest the Pin went to Keith and Longest Drive was Jammo.  Elsewhere, the matchplay championship continued.  Smithy had his pants pulled down by Evo, while Whippo took a notable scalp in defeating Keith to progress to the quarter finals.  Next week, target golf at Alice Springs.

06/07 TEAM SMITH WIN CYDER CUP
Team Smith went about its defence of the Cyder Cup with ruthless endeavour at the Forest of Arden this weekend, building on a crushing 4-0 pairs overnight lead to eventually run out winners 8-4. Despite a pep talk before tee off, Captain King could not have foreseen a pairs white wash was on the horizon and was on the back foot from there onwards. The overnight lead dictated King would have to put his best handicapped players out early to try and claw back crucial points, allowing Smithy to counter with a strong middle order and secure the cup. The result followed the script with Evo defeating Smithy and Taylor shooting 76 to defeat Knighter to bring the score back to 4-2. The score reached 4-3 when Skinner defeated Jameson (not for the first time in the Cyder Cup) but the two point lead was restored when Gus, arguably golfer of the tournament, rounded of his 7&5 defeat of Kinger. At 5-3, it was left to Cyder Cup romantic Wayne Thomas to secure the point required to retain cup with a 2&1 win over Cooky after very close match. The remaining games out on the course saw Colm & Touty secure maximum points for the weekend and Whippo pull one back with a 2&1 win over Catalan Tony to make it 8-4. Next years Captaincy hands back to the original Cyder Cup Captains, when Delvesy will have a tough job on his hands to pick up the team after two defeats in a row and Touty will be looking to make 2011 “the hat-trick year”. A good couple of days and special mention to the Forest of Arden, who’s courses, food, service and facilities were all top notch.

28/06 FROM GRIZZLE TO SHIZZLE FOR CATALAN TONY
Tony D is back in love with the game after registering his first society victory at Thornbury this weekend. The spaniard racked up 40pts and claimed his new tatoo had given him the strength to win….”I hit the ballio and it go in the holio….what-a-more-a-can-I-saya”…he said. Tony’s win came at a price though as he collected a 5 shot cut in return for his entry into the champion of champions. Elsewhere, Whippo, Gus and Colm also left their respective Cyder Cup Captains frowning for receiving handicap cuts and the Japanese Tourist (at least they are still in the World Cup) won the longest drive. Next week it’s the Cyder Cup and its a level playing field with both teams having 106 shots to play with....all down to the captains and their order of play then is it?

22/6 MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP REMINDER
A reminder to Smithy & Evo, Dunny & Jossi and Keith & Whippo that your matches in the 2010 matchplay championship are due for completion by 30th June.  Please try and squeeze a match in by this date or arrange to play as soon as possible thereafter.

19/6 TOUTY WINS IN WALES
Touty remembered how to win this weekend to take the Wales Open at Dewstow and book his spot at the Champion of Champions.  The maturity of the course showed in the scoring with 36 pts enough to win and 29pts the average score.  Colm Evans took the longest drive roll over and Dave "short-mat" Knight took nearest the pin. Elsewhere, Dunny hit rock bottom when he was told "he looked like Vic Thomas", Ken had a bad day at the office and Roy fell in love with a G10.  Next week Thornbury for the last fixture before the Cyder Cup and there are a couple of spaces available.

15/6 FIXTURE LIST CHANGE
In order for to facilitate hosting the Champion of Champions event at the Herefordshire, the end of season fixtures have been changed.  The match against the Legion remains planned for Friday 3rd September, the Champion of Champions is brought forward to Sunday 12th September and the Brockworth AFC Golf Day is now Friday 17th.  See the fixture list for more details.

9/6 SWANSEA MONEY REQUIRED ASAP
Dunny and Touty urgently require £75 (not £80) to secure your spot on the Swansea overnighter.  Golf and accommodation bills are due and payment would be appreciated.

9/6 COMMITTEE CONSIDERING CHANGE OF VENUE FOR CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
The committee are seeking the views of members in relation to a proposed change of venue for the Champion of Champions.  The end of season event, likely to take place on Sunday 19th September, is usually held at The Manor House, Castle Combe.  Last year the event was brought forward from November to September to accommodate decent weather, however this came with an increase in cost from £50 to £60 which the committee subsidised from club funds to keep it at £50.  However with the uncovering of the Herefordshire as an alternative with good food and a good homeward run of holes for Matchplay final or an Order of Merit shoot out, there is an opportunity to have a good day out at £35 instead of £60.  Comments welcome via the message board.

9/6 KING ANNOUNCES CYDER CUP COLOURS
Cyder Cup captain John King has announced his team will wear pink shirts on day one and white shirts on day two if the Cyder Cup, as preparations for the nerve jangling event continue.

6/7 ALL'S WELL AT CARSWELL FOR SKINNER
Keith Skinner returned to the winners enclosure this weekend, racking up 40 pts at a delightful Carswell Park.  The handicap secretary showed good bouncebackability after double bogeying the first two holes and joins only a handful of qualifiers for the Champion of Champions.  Nearest the Pin also went to Skinner, while longest drive rolled over.  In other competitions, the line up for round 1 of the Matchplay Championship is now complete after the deadline for the preliminary round passed and the Order of Merit looks to be heading towards a two horse race.  No fixture next week due to a number of regulars being on a stag do, so next knock is Dewstow on Saturday 19th June.

31/05 EVANS PIPS DOMINGUEZ AFTER CARD RE-COUNT
Colin Evans claimed first place at this weekends Herefordshire Open, preventing Gus making it three wins out of four...thank fuck.  First prize was handed to Gus on the day but after a card re-count, Evans had pipped him on count back.  Strichtly speaking, Evans could have been disqualified but if we adopted this approach and disqualified incorrectly totalled scorecards, we'd disqualify half the field in every competition.  It wasn't all bad news for Gussy Boy who eagled the 4th hole on his way to dumping hot favourite Mark Jameson out of the matchplay competition.  Elsewhere in the same competition, Delvesy, Whippo and Wayne all progressed after dispatching Ken Howard, Joe Lyons & Chris "Skeletor" Skinner.  Longest drive went to Addy Lewis with a monster hit, nearest the pin went to Gus and the Batman Head Cover went to Joe Lyons who "had an off day".  And finally...two specials mentions, the first goes to the course & staff at the Herefordshire both of which were excellent and secondly to Dave Knight and Joe Lyons for entering the Hall of Shame with the most blobs on a card (8) - good work lads.  Next week, Carswell Park and there are spaces available if anyone fancies it.

28/05 HOLE IN ONE CLUB
The committee are introducing a hole in one fund, paid out to the next golfer to get a hole in one on a society event. The last person to do so was Nick Delves on 4th September 2005.  Since then 246 weeks and 120 society events have passed. If there were 10 golfers paying 50p per week into the hole in one club since the last hole in one, the fund would currently stand at £1,230!

 Rules are plain and simple:

 1.       Anyone can join
 2.       The weekly fee is 50p
 3.       The fee can be paid annually in advance (£26 cash) or 50p per week by direct debit to the hole in one account
 4.       It must be a gross hole in one
 5.       It must be holed during an event organised by the society (i.e. on the fixture list) and that is open to anyone
 6.       It must be holed on a regulation green (not a temporary)
 7.       In the event of a hole in one by a founder member of hole in one club, the full balance will be paid
 8.       In the event of a hole in one by a member joining after the commencement of hole in one club, the full balance will be paid minus the balance as at the date they joined.

Launch date will be week commencing 28th June.

See Touty to sign up.

23/05 SWANSEA MONEY DUE BY 30th JUNE
All golfers coming to the Swansea Overnighter on Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August are made aware that £80 is required to cover your golf at Machyns Penninsula and your room at the Premier Inn on Vine Street by 30th June.  Payment can be made to Touty or Dunny.

23/05 PRELIMINARY MATCHPLAY ROUND GAMES DUE FOR COMPLETION
A reminder to all participants in the 2010 Matchplay Championship that the preliminary matches are due for completion by 31st May.  All golfers who have played an event in 2010 but who's opposition have not, are awarded a bye into the next round unless they have arranged to play the match indepedantly.  If both participants in a match have failed to play in a society event and have not arranged to play the fixture independantly, they are both disqualified and their opponent in the next round is awarded a bye in the next round.

23/05 KNIGHTER GETS WOOD AT WOODLANDS
Society pervert Dave Knight racked up 45pts this weekend joining Smithy and Pillsbury the Walrus in the end of season Champion of Champions.  The short game returned for the cross dresser, who claimed he had revamped his putting style after watching Brad Faxon on Sky Sports the night before...whatever.  Elsewhere, Dunny racked up 41 pts and a 5 shot cut on the way to dumping Colin Evans out of the matchplay championship, Touty & Joe Lyons picked up nearest the pin and longest drive respectively and Charlie picked up the head cover.  Next week, the Herefordshire.

17/05 THE WALRUS MARCHES ON
The society hit an all time low this weekend as Gus secured his second win in a week, at what proved to be a very challenging Monmouth Golf Club. Conditions were perfect for low scoring but it just didn’t happen as par was only broken by one golfer, by one stableford point. The win takes Dominguez to the top of the Order of Merit with only a minor dent in his handicap. Elsewhere Smithy & Touty found themselves propping up with scoreboard and Colm & Jammo won nearest the pin and longest drive. Special mention for Tony D, who went birdie – par – birdie to rack up 14 points in three holes. Next week Woodlands for the Cav Park Open.

08/05 THE LOVE WALRUS WINS AT BLUSTERY BROMSGROVE
The societies answer to Barry White won the Blue Sheep Open this weekend before jetting off to sunny Woolacombe for a night with the new bird.  Never before has a winner of a society event been so on the leash that he misses what has to be said was a superb dinner, followed by the presentation.  Elsewhere society newcomer Neil Crowther picked up second place and could be one to watch, Knighter thinned one for nearest the pin and Jammo hit the longest drive.  Jameson also progressed in the matchplay championship, as did Touty with wins over Leon and Gilly respectively (who got a bit tired).  Next week, the seasons first Major...the Burket Cup at Monmouth.

02/05 SMITHY RECORDS BACK TO BACK WINS AT OMBERSLEY
The deaf old git registered back to back victories at Ombersley this weekend on a sunny afternoon in Droitwich.  Society statisticians have yet to confirm if this is the first time anyone has managed consecutive wins and as it's Smithy, they probably won't bother checking.  The course was a new one for the society and although fairly short, was well maintained and its big greens required some accurate approach shots.  Kinger had a shocker and looks completely out of sorts, blaming extra curricular "morning activities" for his rag ass performance.  Elsewhere Jammo picked up nearest the pin and Gus hit a lucky one for longest drive.  Next week, Bromsgrove.

29/03 EXTRA CHILLI SAUCE & SALAD FOR SMITHY AT SEASON OPENER
The season got under way this weekend at The Manor House & Golf Club with Pete "I've bought a donkey from Weston" Smith edging out Andy Cook in a photo finish (countback).  Some great iron play and solid putting sealed an early spot in the Champion of Champions for the Silver Surfer who now becomes the bookies early favourite for the Order of Merit. Elsewhere, Gus's work on his 'golf muscles' over the winter seemed to have back fired, Tony D won longest drive and the Society welcomed debutant Joe Lyons to the fold.  Next stop, Ombersley in May.

17/03 SWANSEA OVERNIGHTER BOOKED
The Swansea overnighter is booked for Saturday the 31st July. We'll be playing Machynys Peninsula on Saturday, teeing off at 11.10am and staying over for a night on the lash.  The full package is coffee and a bacon roll, 18 holes, 2 course dinner, over night stay at a Travel Inn for £85.  Places are limited so get your name down to confirm your place.

17/03 CIRENCESTER REPLACES THE PARK ON FIXTURE LIST

17/03 TONY D REPLACES DUNNY AT THE CYDER CUP
Tony D replaces Dunny for the 2010 Cyder Cup, adding some European flair to Team Smith.  Unfortunately Dunny has booked a caravan in Porthcawl for the week and can't make it.  There's lovely boyo.

b. Signing and Returning Score Card - After completion of the round, the competitor should check his score for each hole and settle any doubtful points with the Committee. 28/09 EVO IS (gay) LORD OF THE MANOR and THE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS
Pre tournament favourite Mike Evans proved the bookies right once again this weekend, lifting the Champion of Champions trophy for the first time at the beautiful Manor House Hotel & Golf Club.  The season finale was a belter of day and included John "Dinner Face" King boring everyone about how he'd cooked "Beef Wellington without the Beef" the night before.  He went on to say "yeah but no but...I replaced the Beef with Halimabut" but no-one was still the wiser.  Luckily an exciting 2010 matchplay draw got us back on track before the serious business of practice on the range and the main event.  The order of merit leaders had the honour of leading us out, with Keith Skinner and Jocky Dominguez going head to head for the Order of Merit title.  Others were keen to do well, so much so that the ultra competitive Dunny had resorted to trapping Tony D's hand in the boot of his car earlier in the morning...in fairness to the Japanese Tourist he was nothing but apologetic during his explanation when he said "one down, 14 of you gits left to go".  Further down the field Touty, Jammo, Evo were looking to sneak up the rails but it was Dunny and Tony D who were co-leading the tournament after the first, both picking up four points and claiming an early victory.  At the turn, it was clear the pack were playing catch up to Evo who had shot 37 points, including birdies at 6, 7 & and 9.  It was not proving so easy for some, including the usually classy Mark Jameson, who lost 6 balls on his way to 23 points and was reported to have declared "this is a sh*t game" and "i'm not playing golf again this year".  After some friendly advice for the rest of his fourball ("turn than frown (or your whole head) upside down") , he came good and grabbed two 2's on the back 9.  Other notable achievements were the Chairman's eagle at the 7th, Gus wrapping up the Order of Merit (click here to see one hell of a photo of him collecting the trophy), Sean Charles managing to exit the 2010 matchplay competition 6 months before it starts and Ken Howard's 40 points giving him victory in the non qualifiers event.  Howard told the Bahrainian Press "I'm after the big boys next year".  Evans's gross 77 and 41 pts wrapped up a well deserved victory and was only marred by the fact he was spotted still using hair gel well...what's that all about we all wondered?  Click here to see the video's of the opening fourball's tee shots and the presentation as well as snaps from throughout the day.  A great season, roll on 2010.

13/09 TONY D THE HERO AS BROCK RETAIN RYDER CUP
In the closest Brockworth Ryder Cup since its inception, it was veteran european wildcard Tony Dominguez who ensured Albion secured enough points to retain the cup.  A point down at the half way point, Albion's captain Mark Jameson remained confident his team would come good in the singles.  However with five rookies facing the hostile environment of the Ryder Cup, this year was different and the Legion were giving as good as they got in the first 6 matches, remaining a point ahead going into the closing holes.  Matches 7 and 8 went the way of the Legion to put them in touching distance of a famous win, but Albion hit back in matches 9 and 10 to give themselves a chance of retaining.  It left the destiny of the cup in the hands of matches 11 and 12, in which the Legion had played a trump card by leaving two of their more experienced and lower handicapped golfers, for just this sort of situation.  But golf just doesn't work out like that and Albion's match 11 and 12 golfers, Mark Temple and Tony Dominguez, stepped up and turned their matches around having both been staring down the barrel of a gun with 3 holes to play.  The pressure the last groups were playing under was summed up in a nutshell when the usually quiet and partially english speaking Tony Dominguez, turned to his playing partner on the 18th tee and enquired "'ow you feelin?".  The hole was played out in front of a gallery of onlookers and was being photographed and recorded by a media scrum.  Dominguez hit the long par 4 in regulation and proceeded to use his shots wisely to hole out and ensure the half that retained the cup for Albion. Oley!  In a cunning twist of fate, next years captains were announced and sets up a mouth watering match, with Keith Skinner (Albion) Vs Wayne Thomas (R.B.L).

31/08 ORDER OF MERIT RACES HOTS UP
The 2009 Order of Merit will go to the wire for the third year in a row after Paul Dominguez surrendered a 12pt lead at this weekends Club Championship. Its seemingly a two horse race now with Keith Skinner now leading by a single point going into the final event.  Both players will go out in the same group at the Champion of Champions on the 27th September in what now doubles up as the Order of Merit decider.  Dominguez must be cursing letting his lead slip and tinkering with clubs, while Skinner must be well fancied based on current form.  Click here to see the tail of the tape.

31/08 SMITHY WINS MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP
Pete Smith became the 2009 Matchplay Champion win a 3&2 win over Andy White.  Smithy gets his name on the Honours Board for the first time and takes his place in the Champion of Champions line up for Castle Combe.

31/08 THE DURHAM WHIPPET WINS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
Mark Jameson became the 2009 Club Champion this weekend and a testing Woodlake Park.  Jameson went about his business with effortless efficiency, securing the win with 32pts.  Overall it was a tough day at the office for many, with treacherous greens and difficult pin positions reducing the average score to just 24pts.  Jocky Dominguez had a stinker but consoled himself by winning nearest the pin and longest drive.  The Club Championship brings the regular weekly fixtures to a close, with further details of the two remaining events following soon.

25/08 JAMESON IS CLUB CHAMPION
Mark Jameson is the 2009 Club Champion, after a solid display around a very testing Woodlake Park.  32pts was enough to secure the win, with lightning quick greens and some very tricky pin positions reducing the average score to just 24pts.  Jocky Dominguez consoled himself by picking up nearest the pin and longest drive while Colm Evans did ever so well to blob 9 holes (including the first 4 on the bounce) on his way to a solid 17pts.  The Club Championship brings the regular weekly fixtures to a close, with details of the 2 remaining events to follow shortly.

23/08 SKINNER PICKS UP SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON
Keith Skinner left the field 6pts behind at Alice Springs this weekend, with some excellent course management and solid ball striking.  Skinner earns himself a cut to 13.0 and said "you know what they say, if you're gonna win...might as well win big mind!".  Elsewhere, Chairman Delves put in a solid 35pts for second place and Pete Smith roasted Jockey Dominguez 5&3 to book a spot in next weekends 2009 Matchplay Final.  Longest Drive also went to Skinner, whilst Touty picked up Nearest the Pin.  Next week it's a biggee, the Club Championship at Woodlake Park.

21/08 GUS'S PROFILE PICTURE UPDATED

19/08 MATCHPLAY WINNER TO BE GRANTED CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS SPOT
The committee would like to announce that the winner of the Matchplay Championship will be granted a place in the Champion of Champions competition this year and in future years.  Semi Finals to be completed by Friday 28th August with the Final being played at the Club Championship at Woodlake Park on Saturday 29th August.

16/08 JAPANESE TOURIST INVADES BELMONT LODGE
Steve Dunn lived up to his ever growing reputation as the societies number one bandit this weekend by racking up 37 points at Belmont Lodge, with just the three blobs.  Dunn told reporters "it's one of the best days of my life alongside my wedding day, the birth of my kids and the day I was mistaken for Kevin Keegan in the County Arms".  The Japanese tourist secures his place in the Champion of Champions and looks to be a sold bet to take the title.  Elsewhere, Delvesy balanced the thrill of a nearest the pin prize with the horror of a super hero head cover while Wayne won longest drive but didn't have a shower (again)...it's OK Wayne we've seen it before and know it looks like a stubbed out cigar.  And finally...Gus left us all wondering if he is taking his "Golf Organisation Apprenticeship" seriously with another shambolic display which involved us rushing to the first tee and nobody knowing if we were or weren't having dessert .  Better luck next week at Alice Springs Tubs.

03/08 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS CONFIRMED FOR 27th SEPTEMBER
As eluded to earlier on this news page, the Champion of Champion event is now being held on Sunday, 27th September.  Get your name on the list to guarantee one of 16 available places.

02/08 KING FINED FOR CONTINUED RULE INFRINGEMENTS
The committee has fined John King £5 for continued rule infringements and ungentlemanly conduct.  After openly admitting to winning tour events and progressing in the matchplay competition with 15 clubs in his bag and refusing to use the head cover he was issued, we can now reveal that King chooses only to record his own score and not that of his playing partner as the rules dictate he should (its not rocket science John).  King is required to pay £5 to the beer kitty before being permitted to play in any further society competitions or to represent the society in any further team events with immediate effect.  The fine comes with a warning that further infringements will result in instant disqualification.  When will this bloke get it in his head that completing a scorecard is part of the game...never probably, but the beer kitty will flourish...drinks on Kinger lads.  Click here to see the card he handed in this weekend, playing opposite Touty.

02/08 CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS (& CHAMP OF CHUMPS) FIXTURE BROUGHT FORWARD
The Champion of Champions event normally takes place in November when the Castle Combe winter deals come in to play.  However this year there is an offer we plan to take advantage of that will allow us to play the course on either Sunday 20th or 27th September.  Sods law will dictate that it will rain but at least we won't be freezing cold and struggling for light.  The deal offers 18 Holes with a Buggy and a Meal afterwards for £65.  This fee will be subsidised from club funds by £10 down to £55 for all golfers who have supported the society this year by playing half the events or more.  The fixture will act as the end of season Champion of Champions Event for all those who have won an event this year (click here to see if you have qualified) but there will also be a Champ of Chumps Event in operation for all those who want to play the course on the day.  First prize for the Champion of Champions will be an overnight stay in Castle Combe's luxury Manor House Hotel (subject to us getting 16 golfers to the event) and there will be additional prizes for Champ of Chumps, nearest the pin and longest drive.  Notice going up on the notice board asap so get your name down to guarantee a place.

02/08 KNIGHT HAILS "GREATEST WEEK IN GOLF" WITH WIN AT ROSS
Still basking in Cyder Cup glory, Capt Knightrider capped his greatest week in golf with a win at a wet Ross on Wye.  Knight could afford to blob the last and still claim victory by a point from japanese tourist Steve Dunn and Mike Evans, while Touty picked up the turd. Elsewhere John King and Steve Dunn progressed to the matchplay semi and quarter finals respectively with 3&2 wins over Touty and Tony D.  The seasons first longest drive/nearest the pin double went to Keith Skinner.  Next week the Cotswold Cup...keep an eye on your phones to see if you've made the team.

28/07 TEAM KNIGHT REGAIN THE CYDER CUP

I couldn’t be another humdinger could it?  It couldn’t come down to the last singles match out on the course again could it?  Well if it did, Wayne wouldn’t be involved again would he?...yes, yes and yes...the Cyder Cup never dissapoints.  Click here to see the full report.

19/07 CYDER CUP COUNTDOWN
Next Sunday/Monday is the 6th Annual Cyder Cup, hosted by the Park Resort in Bath.  Captains Andy White and Dave Knight will lead their teams into battle in what is being billed as the Belt Buster Vs the Perv.  Handicaps are finalised, with Team White carrying 107 shots against Team Knights 98.  Nerves will jangle, it will be tense but most of all...it'll be a good crack.

19/07 KING WIN OVER SHADOWED BY CONTINUED RULE INFRINGEMENTS
John King "won" the Dewstow Open this weekend, only to reveal afterwards he had done so carrying 15 clubs in his bag.  It's not the first time, having advanced to the quarter finals of the matchplay championship with a 15 club win over Wayne Thomas.  King, who will be known as "Johnny 15" from now on, made a pathetic attempt of defending the error by claiming "it's OK, I never used my 5 wood".  The committee have issued a final warning on the matter with any further infringements resulting in disqualification and are watching with interest to see if King donates the prize money to the Society beer kitty (although is not holding its breath).  Elsewhere, scores were low around a tricky, well protected Dewstow course.  Colm Evans and Taff picked up the two Nearest the Pin comps that were run on the day.  Next week..it's the big one.

12/07 RECORD BREAKING JAMESON ROARS BACK TO FORM IN THE FOREST
In the biggest comeback since Rocky Balboa rose from the canvas to defeat Apollo Creed in Rocky II, Mark Jameson won this weekends Forest of Dean Open.  Struggling for form since the start of the season and trying to break in new clubs, Jameson saw his handicap double in less than six months but turned it all around to return the lowest ever gross (69) and net (59) scores.  Jameson said "phew".  Elsewhere congratulations also go to Paul Dominguez, who after some time and plenty of banter, broke the 80 barrier for the first time.  Longest Drive went to newcomer Taff, while Touty picked up Nearest the Pin.  Next week Dewstow.

05/07 GUS RETAINS CAPTAINCY FOR COTSWOLD HILLS CUP
The committee announces that Paul Dominguez will retain the Captaincy of the team to face Cotswold Hills on Saturday 8th August.  A reminder that the top 12 in the order of merit, after The Ross on Wye Open, qualify for the team.  Dominguez's duties include (but are not limited to) selection of pairings, post match speech, minibus organisation to Bath Road and buying his team the first round.

05/07 IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR AT THE 2009 GREENSOMES
Tony Dominguez almost single hand idly won the Greensomes event this weekend, carrying son Gus to 46pts around the excellent value for money, Rodway Hill.  The win sees Juan Antonio become the 9th qualifier of the end of season Champion of Champions event, with partner Gus already qualified.  Andy Cook won the longest drive and Wayne Thomas won Nearest the Pin.  Next week, The Forest of Dean Open.

28/06 TOUT WINS EPIC TDG OPEN
The largest field of the year (23) took to the fairways at Thornbury this weekend for the second major of the year, the TDG Open.  Glorious sunshine made for perfect golfing conditions and it seemed a 40+ score would be required to take the honours.  Touty lead the field at the half way point and went on to shoot his lowest ever score (74) to secure the win with 44pts and get his name on the society honours board .  Other notable performance came from Andy Cook who parred the course, Sean Charles and Craig Temple who overcame their debut nerves to score 41 and 29 points respectively.  Longest drive went to Andy Cook and Nearest the Pin went to Andy White.  Spare a thought for Gus, who had pin pointed the event to break 80 for the first time, but missed his putt on the 18th green for a score of 80....chins up tubs.  To view the videos of our tee shots on the 1st, click here.  Next week, Highnam for the Greensomes.

21/06 2ND WIN FOR FRIAR THOMAS AT THE WILTSHIRE
Wayne Thomas shot 36 points (and nearly as many fags) at the Wiltshire this weekend to pick up his second win of the season.  Thomas was steady all afternoon and is pleased to see his new fitness regime paying dividends.  Elsewhere, Touty progressed to the quarter finals of the matchplay championhip with a win over Jossi, Ben Walden made his society debut with a stinking hangover while Pat Burford and Gus picked up longest drive and nearest the pin.  Next week, The 2nd 'Major' of the year, the TDG Open at Thornbury where the Cyder Cup Captains will be keen to see not too many handicap cuts being dished out.

14/06 DELVES COMES GOOD AT EVENTFUL SAPEY
Delvesy stepped out of the darkness and into the Champion of Champions this weekend with a countback victory at the Sapey Open.  Delves, who was reaping the rewards of a session with Buth Har-Cook, edged out Colm Evans who was unlucky to be pipped into second place.  Longest drive went to Colm Evans and Nearest the Pin went to Paul Tayor.  Elsewhere, the next round of the 2009 Matchplay Championship got under way with victories for Andy White (2&1 over Andy Cook), Paul Taylor (4&2 over Mark Jameson) and Paul Dominguez (4&3 over Keith Skinner).  Next week, unchartered waters as we head for the Wiltshire.

31/05 RECORDS TUMBLE AT BROMSGROVE AS TOUTY JOINS THE WINNERS CIRCLE
Touty joined the winners circle this weekend, racking up 44pts in the sunshine at Bromsgrove (click here to see videos of some ugly blokes teeing off).  9 one putts and 9 two putts was the key to heavy scoring and there was icing on the cake with entry to the Hall of Fame for a net 60, where he was joined by Andy Cook (gross 71).  Elsewhere, Smithy won the nearest the pin with a lucky one, while Gus picked up longest drive.  It wasn't the only long drive Gus had on the day, as he missed the exit for the M5 south bound on the way home and headed north bound.  Only a very quick Audi TT got him back to the Rugby Club with no questions being asked but luckily this latest navigational disaster was spotted to the Society Chairman and Secretary.  Next week Alice Springs (via Milton Keynes).

24/05 BRUCIE BONUS FOR KNIGHT AT THE WYCHWOOD
Dave Knight became the first multiple winner of the year this weekend at the delightful Wychwood Golf Club. Knight's 39 points secured victory by a single point and was happy with his form "I'm chuffed to bits, not just for me but for Bruce and everyone involved". Elsewhere Paul Taylor progressed to the next round of the matchplay championship with an awesome 8&7 win over Nick Delves, shooting a gross 75 included which included two shots lost to water hazards.  It wasn't all bad for Delves though, he picked up longest drive having knocked it 80 yards past "Boom Boom Dominguez".  Nearest the pin went to Keith Skinner.  Next week, Bromsgrove.

18/05 COLIN EVANS OUT OF CYDER CUP
Cyder Cup stalwart Colin Evans is out of the Cyder Cup with a knee injury and has been replaced by Tony "is a nice a place" Dominguez.  A gutted Evans explained "i'm in for surgery on a recurring knee problem and had to make a call now to allow our captain enough time to plan ahead.  I wish the lads all the best".  Tony was unable to comment as his translator had pissed off down the pub.

17/05 HURRICANE THOMAS WHIPS UP A STORM AT RAGLAN
A hot streak with the putter helped Wayne Thomas lift the Burket Cup at Raglan Parc this weekend.  Thomas was solid from tee to green and one putted several greens for the win that sees him join the list of qualifiers for the Champion of Champions. Thomas said "I felt good from the moment I woke up this ,morning and lit my third fag of the day".  He also picked up the Longest Drive, while Keith Skinner knocked it to ten feet for nearest the pin.  Elsewhere, Touty and John King progressed to the next round of the matchplay championship with wins over Darren Booy and Jim Burket respectively.  This report would not be complete with the society paying its respects to Colm Evans' pitching wedge, that was sadly butchered (snapped in half) by John King on the 17th.  Next week, the Wychwood.

09/05 KNIGHT WINS AT WONDERFUL WOODLAKE PARK
Dave Knight sunk a 5ft putt on the last to beat John King on countback at this weekend's Woodlake Open in the Usk Valley.  Knight said "I think I'll treat myself to a new gimp mask".  Once again the course was in great condition and with only 2 birdies and 35 pars from a field of 10, it played tough in the wind,  Despite picking up the rolled over nearest the pin prize, John King still couldn't find his camouflage wallet and get a round in...some things never change. Finally, Andy White progressed to the next round of the matchplay with a win over Mark Burford.  Next week is the first MAJOR of the year...the Burket Cup, where Jim Burket welcomes you to join him for a round of golf and "a few pints" afterwards.  Head Cover Hell also returns.

03/05 KNIGHT GETS ONE STEP AHEAD IN CYDER CUP MIND GAMES
Cyder Cup Captain Daver Knight stole a march on his opposite number this weekend by announcing his team will be wearing Sky Blue shirts on Sunday and White shirts Monday at this years Cyder Cup.  Knight said "I wanted to give my team confidence by letting them know that plans are in place to win the cup back, starting with our attire for the matches.  Plus with Gus, Colm and Touty in my team, they'll need plenty of time to go shopping".

Speaking of the matchplay championship, Tony "is a nice a place" Dominguez moved into the next round with a win over Foghorn Leon while Colm Evans won the longest drive with a lucky one and Nearest the Pin was rolled over to next week (£10 up for grabs).  Next stop on the Brockworth Tour is Woodlake Park.

16/03 EARLY SEASON WIN FOR EVO

Mike Evans won the Charity Shield this weekend at a gloriously sunny Bowood.  Evans, who recently became a member of the societies arch rivals Cotswold Hills, was glad to secure an early spot in the end of season Champions event and saw his handicap dwindle to 11 for the first time.   James A Burkay picked up nearest the pin, while upside down head hit a bomb up the 12th for longest drive.  I can't end this report on proceedings without a word about two golfers who managed to keep smiling during a poor day at the office.  Following Darren Booy's air shot on the first, he proceeded to blob the first 4 holes but went on to avoid the dreaded head cover.  That honour went to Wayno, who managed to blob half the holes he played (yes, 9) and picked up the floppy eared bunny head cover.  It will look a treat on the bag.  Most of the field played poorly but it didn't matter, the golf was free and the sun was out.  Spot on.

10/02 FIXTURE LIST COMPLETE
The 2009 fixture list is complete.  Lists will be going up on the Rugby Club notice board at 7.30pm on Thursday, 12th February.  The vast majority of events this year are booked for 12 golfers and are on a first come first served basis, with space for reserves if you are unfortunate to miss out.  Normal society rules apply to putting you name down in the sense that anyone doing so and not turning up, must pay for the day missed before attending any further events.

08/02 NEW SUBS SCHEME INTRODUCED
A new subs scheme will be introduced this season, requiring all gofers to pay £3 each week they take the fairways with the society.  With the majority of fixtures limited to 12 places, this will provide a weekly prize fund of £36.  This will be split £20 to the days winner, £5 for nearest the pin and longest drive respectively, leaving £6 to go into society funds.

01/02 RATE MY SWING
Those of us unfortunate enough to have had our swings recorded on tour can now view these courtesy of our new feature 'Rate My Swing'.  Please be patient while the videos load for the first time.  More to be added through the seasons.

Don't forget to hand in any head covers won last year for re-distribution this season.  A red * on the fixture list indicates which games head covers will be awarded.  Normal rules apply, if the person in last place is already the proud owner of a head cover, the next worst finish joins head cover club.

28/01 CREDIT CRUNCH HITS FIXTURE LIST
The credit crunch is determining how the 2009 fixture list is shaping up with options being taken for golf only and light bites to eat where possible.  We are also experimenting with eating before golf on some occasions to ensure we are back to Brockworth in plenty of time to either get bladdered or spend time with families and such like.

21/01 TOURISTS RETURN
Another good tour has come and gone and a good time was had by all.  The euro / pound exchange rate made things expensive but all in all we can't complain.  Kangaroo court highlights included the following fines:

Dressing like Des' O'Connor = Willie Stephens

Being mistaken for Lionel Blair = Mike Burford

Acting like a Japanese Tourist = Steve Dunn

Looking like Co Stompe = Alf Chrascina

Having a Gastric Fan Belt = Andy White

31/12 FULLER HOWLER HANDS BROCK THE COTSWOLD CUP
"Nod" Fuller's howler on the 18th prevented Cotswold Hills from retaining the Cotswold Challenge Cup this year, handing Brock their first victory in the event.  Cpt Dominguez, who'd clearly learned from previous mistakes as a Cyder Cup captain, thanked the organisers and said he was proud to lift the cup.  A big group headed for Cheltenham afterwards, where Mark Johnson won the most drunk man award....pipping John King into second and Whippo into third.  Click here to see the full result.
